Atletico Madrid’s Diego Godin knows a thing or two about world-class strikers, so when he says any team in the world would want Jamie Vardy, it is another measure of the Leicester striker’s incredible rise.
Godin has shared dressing rooms with Luis Suarez, Edinson Cavani, Sergio Aguero, Radamel Falcao and Diego Costa, and he puts the 30-year-old Leicester striker firmly in their company.
‘He is a great player,’ Godin says, perched on one of the red bucket seats at Atletico Madrid’s training ground in the build-up to the Champions League quarter-final second leg.



‘He fights and competes in every game and never gives a single ball up for lost.
