City have lined up a £35m swoop for Sanchez in this window following their recent injury crisis but Arsene Wenger wants a proven high-profile signing before sanctioning the move, according to The Mirror.
Sanchez, whose contract expires in the summer, had been set to leave at the end of the season but Gabriel Jesus' knee injury has seen Pep Guardiola attempt to seal the deal earlier with Sergio Aguero his only remaining fit striker.
