BRADENTON, Fla – Before making his first career start Sunday against the Bills, Shalom Luani asked the veterans around him what to expect.
What was their first start like? How should he approach it? The rookie seventh-round safety from Washington State was thrust into the first 11 with Karl Joseph’s absence to injury, and had to prepare himself quickly to help plug a hampered Raiders’ secondary.
“Just play fast, don’t worry about no mistakes,” veteran safety Reggie Nelson said he told the rookie. “Let everything else take care of itself. It’s the same game you’ve been playing your whole life.
