Raiders signing Jalen Richard to contract extension

ALAMEDA — Running back Jalen Richard won’t go on the market after agreeing to a contract extension with the Raiders Tuesday.

Richard, a four-year veteran who was scheduled for unrestricted free agency, is coming off down year statistically after taking a back seat to rookie Josh Jacobs but is still considered a valuable weapon by coach Jon Gruden.

The news was first reported by NFL Media and confirmed by a team source, although the Raiders have made no announcement.

The Raiders third-leading rusher behind Jacobs (1,150 yards) and DeAndre Washington (397 yards), Richard also caught 36 passes for 323 yards, tying Washington for fourth behind tight end Darren Waller (90 receptons) and wide receivers Hunter Renfrow (49) and Tyrell Williams (42).
