Raiders notes: DeAndre Washington nearing return from arthroscopic knee surgery

ALAMEDA – DeAndre Washington was the only Raider not practicing on Wednesday. It came as zero surprise.

The third-year running back is recovering from arthroscopic knee surgery to repair an ailment suffered near training camp’s end.

The timing couldn’t have been worse. Washington’s roster spot wasn’t secure despite two solid seasons of work, not with a hard-charging rookie Chris Warren and free-agent signing Doug Martin in the mix.

He missed the rest of the preseason, but Jon Gruden had seen enough both in camp and on previous game tape. Washington survived final cut. Warren was placed on season-ending injured reserve, and Washington’s around for another campaign.
