Overjoyed Antonio Brown elated to flee Raiders for Patriots

ALAMEDA — About five hours after being released by the Raiders, Antonio Brown has landed with the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots.

Brown asked for and released his request Saturday morning, and by mid-afternoon ESPN’s Adam Schefter was reporting a one-year contract with the Patriots.

Raiders coach Jon Gruden and his team had finished their media obligations when the news broke. Gruden, however, responded to a text message about Brown joining the Patriots and said “I wish him the best.”

Brown, who will get none of the $30.125 million guaranteed money he was due from the Raiders, could recoup about half that in a one-year contract, Schefter reported.
