During his time at the University of Michigan, Maurice Hurst showed himself to be a freak of nature from his defensive tackle position. Whether he was busting the middle open, or chasing down Big Ten running backs, he proved that he was worthy of a first round selection.
However, his dreams of being selected in the first round came to a crashing halt during the NFL Scouting Combine, when doctors discovered a heart issue that scared most of the NFL teams away. Not the Oakland Raiders, though, as Jon Gruden and company saw enough in him, and heard enough from the doctors to take a chance on him in the fifth round.
