Raiders fans know Austin Howard primarily as a guard, but the man’s played a ton of right tackle. He protected that flank over 32 stars for the New York Jets before signing with Oakland.
He was pretty good at that spot a five-year, $30 million contract half that sum paid in the first two years. That didn’t stop the Raiders from moving Howard inside for a year-long experiment that ended when head coach Jack Del Rio and offensive line coach Mike Tice got hired.
“It’s been an adjustment,” Howard said, “but I feel like we have the best coaching staff out there to all get as good as we need to be on the offensive line.
