Why Kentucky basketball is not playing an exhibition against a Division I school

LEXINGTON - What if the No. 2-ranked Kentucky basketball team did not have to face No. 1 Michigan State in the season opener without having played another Division I team first?

The Spartans will already have scrimmaged against a top-10 team before that matchup.

Meanwhile, Kentucky opens its 2019-20 exhibition schedule Sunday against NAIA Georgetown College.

UK typically uses its two preseason exhibitions as an opportunity to play at least one of the local Division III or NAIA schools, but those opponents do not offer anything close to the challenge of playing another Power 5 school.
