Before Mike Leach returns to Lexington, the SEC Network looked back at his first stint in the SEC as Hal Mumme’s offensive coordinator at the University of Kentucky. The network spoke to Mumme about the reception the Air Raid offense initially received in the SEC.
“My old boss at Kentucky, C.M. Newton, probably said it best: It was fast break basketball on grass. He always loved Rick Pitino’s style and he wanted to hire somebody that was going to do the same thing in football,” Mumme said.
“The naysayers were everywhere. There was very few people that thought it would work.
