LEXINGTON, Ky. – Freshman Kayla Kowalik was named the Southeastern Conference’s Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday afternoon. It is Kowalik’s second Freshman of the Week honor after winning the weekly award two weeks ago for her performance at the Coach B Classic.
Kowalik helped lead the Kentucky Wildcats to a 5-0 week with three wins over Mississippi State and midweek defeats over Miami and Syracuse. The New Braunsfels, Texas native hit .500 on the week going 7-for-14 with eight runs scored, two doubles and a triple.
Her team-leading fourth triple of the season came in the bottom of the sixth inning to tie the game with Mississippi State after UK trailed by as many as six runs.
