UK cheerleaders take to social media to defend fired coaches, program's reputation

LEXINGTON – In the wake of the University of Kentucky firing its cheerleading coaching staff, several current and former members of the program are taking to social media to defend their former coaches.

"Any choices that we made were completely on our own, and completely separate from the coaching staff," 2019-20 senior Riley Aguiar tweeted Monday afternoon. "Jomo (Thompson) is one of the top coaches in the world and it was incredible to have been coached by him for four years."

On Monday, UK announced Thompson and assistant coaches Ben Head, Spencer Clan and Kelsey LaCroix had been fired following an investigation into allegations of hazing, drinking alcohol and public nudity during university-sponsored trips.
