LEXINGTON - Zack Thompson posted one of the best seasons of any Kentucky pitcher this spring. Now he is the earliest MLB draft among any pitcher in program history.
The St. Louis Cardinals selected Thompson with the No. 19 pick in the 2019 MLB draft Monday. Thompson slid slightly from mock drafts projecting him to go as early as No. 12 but still bested former Wildcat Alex Meyer (No. 23, 2011) for the distinction of the earliest selection for any UK pitcher.
