Rhode Island transfer Jacob Toppin seeks immediate eligibility for Kentucky basketball

LEXINGTON - Olivier Sarr is not the only transfer seeking immediate eligibility for the Kentucky basketball team this season.

Rhode Island transfer Jacob Toppin, who had previously been assumed to be planning to sit out the 2020-21 season, has also applied for a waiver to the normal transfer requirement of sitting out a season, the school announced Thursday in its preseason prospectus.

Both Sarr and Toppin are listed as "currently ineligible for the 2020-21 season due to transfer rules" on UK's official roster, but the school confirmed waiver requests had been submitted for both. Sarr, a third-team All-ACC selection at Wake Forest last season, has reportedly been approved for a waiver by the NCAA but requires an additional one from the SEC because the league normally prohibits undergraduate transfers who do not have multiple years of eligibility remaining.
