Referees Fail to Eject LSU’s Marlon Taylor After Intentional Elbow to Face

LSU’s Marlon Taylor intentionally elbowed Alabama’s John Petty in the face during the first half of today’s game in Tuscaloosa.

Referees reviewed the play and called it a flagrant 1 foul, which allowed Taylor to stay in the game.

A flagrant 1 foul (men’s) or unsportsmanlike foul (women’s) involves excessive or severe contact during a live ball, including especially when a player “swings an elbow and makes illegal, non-excessive contact with an opponent above the shoulders”.
