Penn State Fires James Franklin After Loss to Northwestern

Penn State has fired head football coach James Franklin after 12 seasons following Saturday’s loss to Northwestern.

Franklin, who led the Nittany Lions to the College Football Playoff semifinals last season, is still owed $49 according to his contract.

Penn State started the season with three consecutive wins, but followed that up with three straight losses.

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — Penn State has made a change in the leadership of its football program, Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Patrick Kraft announced today. Associate Head Coach Terry Smith will serve as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
