North Carolina hiring assistant Hubert Davis, per report

North Carolina didn’t have to look far to find Roy Williams’ successor. Multiple outlets are reporting that the Tar Heels will hire Hubert Davis, the former UNC star who served on Williams’ staff for the past nine seasons, as their new head coach. An emergency meeting of the Board of Trustees is scheduled for this afternoon. This will be Davis’ first head coaching job (unless you count UNC’s JV team), making this quite a leap of faith for the UNC brass.

Davis played under Dean Smith from 1988-92 and was drafted No. 20 by the New York Knicks in the 1992 NBA Draft.
