LEXINGTON - The greatest proof yet that John Calipari is casting a wider net for his Kentucky basketball recruiting targets came Wednesday evening.
Three-star Wisconsin prep guard Brandin Podziemski tweeted he had received a scholarship offer from UK after a Zoom call with Calipari and UK assistant coach Joel Justus.
If you had not heard of Podziemski before that announcement, you are not alone.
The 6-foot-5, 195-pound shooting guard is currently ranked 266th nationally in the 2021 class by the 247Sports Composite. He is ranked as the No. 59 shooting guard in the class.
While well-respected recruiting insider Andrew Slater was among the pundits to tweet Podziemski is in store for a significant bump in the rankings, a UK scholarship offer for a player not from Kentucky anywhere close to where he is currently ranked is unprecedented in the Calipari era.
