NCAA considers extending 3-point line, adding goaltending reviews, shortening shot clock

The NCAA Men’s Basketball Rules Committee has just released their latest official recommendations for collegiate basketball. These rules would begin affecting Division I teams as soon as next season. The recommendations must be approved by the Playing Rules Oversight Panel on June 5 in order to be finalized.

The biggest potential change is the committee’s proposal to extend the 3-point line to the international basketball distance of 22 feet, 1¾ inches. Currently, the three-point line’s distance is 20 feet, 9 inches. The committee cited the following reasons for the change:

  • Making the lane more available for dribble/drive plays from the perimeter.
