Nathan Lawson’s Shutout, Walk-off Home Run Sends Russell County to First State Title Game

EKU commit Nathan Lawson, a first-team all-state senior, pitched another gem and hit a 6th-inning walk-off home run to force the mercy rule, leading Russell County (31-6) to a 10-0 win over Woodford County (26-14) on Friday afternoon. Russell County punched their ticket to Saturday’s Clark’s Pump-N-Shop KHSAA state championship game at Kentucky Proud Park. It will be the program’s first baseball state championship appearance in school history.

On a cloudy and refreshingly cool day in Lexington, the Jackson Five song ABC — played after every 1,2,3 inning — seemed to be on repeat thanks to Lawson’s dominance.
