LIGHTS OUT: A College Basketball Arena’s Power Surge Ruins Game-Winning Attempt

Louisiana shot the lights out to defeat a conference foe in a strange final sequence of Sun Belt basketball.

Arkansas Little-Rock trailed 66-64 with 12.8 remaining when Markquis Nowell took the ball up the court to set up a game-winning or tying attempt for the Trojans. Shortly after crossing the mid-court line, the lights went out.

“Oh my goodness! What’s happening?”

Even though Louisiana’s overhead lights went out, leaving on only the red emergency lights, the clock continued to tick. Little Rock hastily forced up a three-point shot that missed off the front iron as the final horn sounded.
