Kentucky and Houston will meet for just the fifth time on the hardwood when the Cougars and the Wildcats take the Sprint Center court in the Sweet 16 Friday night.
The Cats have a 3-1 series lead over the Coogs, but lost the last meeting 83-69 in Billy Gillispie’s first season at Kentucky. Tubby Smith’s team won the year prior, but those meetings all pale in comparison to the first two meetings between the programs.
1956 Sugar Bowl
In his first season as Houston’s head coach, Hall of Famer Guy Lewis took his team to the Sugar Bowl Championship in 1956 where Johnny Cox was waiting.
