UK AD Mitch Barnhart talks Music City Bowl, football season evaluations Jon Hale/The C-J
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Kentucky senior linebacker Courtney Love is the 2017 winner of the Danny Wuerffel Trophy, which goes to the college football player who "best combines exemplary community service with athletic and academic achievement."
Love, a native of Youngstown, Ohio who transferred to UK from Nebraska three years ago, has worked to mentor children, especially those from one-parent homes or with incarcerated parents during his time in Lexington. Earlier this fall, as part of Love's selection to the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team, Allstate renovated the basketball court at Woodhill Park in Lexington for Amachi Central Kentucky, a mentoring program Love works with that pairs adults with children who have one or both parents in state or federal prison or are affected by incarceration.
