LEXINGTON — Kentucky football opened preseason practice Tuesday, but coach Mark Stoops is still waiting to learn if a key transfer will be eligible to play this fall.
UK finished filing the paperwork for former Auburn quarterback Joey Gatewood's application for a transfer waiver to allow him to play this fall earlier this summer, but the school has yet to hear back from the NCAA with a final ruling.
"We expect an answer here relatively soon," Stoops said Tuesday before his team's first preseason practice. "I don’t think it’s appropriate to speculate on what I expect at this point in time.
