Kentucky football adds nation's top-ranked kicker to 2022 recruiting class

LEXINGTON - Kentucky football has found its kicker of the future.

Boyle County kicker Jackson Smith, the No. 1-ranked kicker in the high school class of 2022 according to ProKicker.com, committed to UK Thursday morning. He also considered Eastern Kentucky and Princeton.

Smith converted 4 of 6 field goals and 54 of 58 extra-point attempts in Boyle County's undefeated 2020 season. He hit a 23-yard field goal in overtime to send the Rebels to a 31-28 win over Franklin County for the 4A state championship in December.

A two-time first-team All-State selection by the Courier Journal, Smith will look to settle a kicker position that has faced significant turnover since the departure of UK's all-time leading scorer Austin MacGinnis in 2017.
