BOISE, Idaho — Davidson did not on Thursday defeat Goliath.
The fifth-seeded Kentucky basketball team defeated No. 12 seed Davidson 78-73 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
The 3-point line created the equalizing means for a potentially upsetting end.
Davidson made 11 shots from beyond the arc, including eight in the second half to cut a double-digit deficit and briefly tie the contest. Kentucky went without a made basket from 3-point range for the first time in 1,047 games. The streak, started in 1988, ended and, eventually, so too did the underdog's bid.
Kentucky's Kevin Knox scored a game-high 25 points on 8-of-16 shooting, and Jon Axel Gudmundsson paced Davidson with six 3-pointers and 21 points.
