Kentucky Baseball Shut Out in Season Opening Loss to Elon

This was not the start to the season that head coach Nick Mingione imagined.

In the 2023 season opener, Kentucky traveled to Elon and was shut out 2-0 by the Phoenix.

Let’s start with the positives: Darren Williams is still very, very good.

After requiring Tommy John Surgery last season, the seventh-year grad student made his return to the mound in grand fashion. Williams relieved starter Logan Martin after five innings pitched, where Martin gave up six hits and two earned runs. Williams shut down the Phoenix offense, pitching three innings and striking out seven of the 11 batters he faced.
