Illinois basketball loses all three assistants from best team in nearly two decades

John Calipari came in and snagged Orlando Antigua and Chin Coleman away from Brad Underwood, and now Gonzaga head coach Mark Few has taken the last on-court assistant from Illinois’ best season in 16 years.

Following the official departures of Antigua and Coleman earlier this month, Illinois assistant Stephen Gentry is also reportedly leaving the program to rejoin Few’s staff in Spokane.

The veteran coach confirmed the departure in a statement on social media, thanking Illinois for “a tremendous two years.”

“Thank you Illinois for a tremendous two years – led the Big 10 in combined wins the last two seasons, two NCAA Tournament births, NCAA #1 seed, Big 10 Tournament champions – but more importantly it was the relationships forged through the chasing of these achievements that I will never forget and will always hold dear.
