LEXINGTON - Two years before he turned himself into a Kentucky football legend by thriving as the Wildcats' emergency quarterback, Lynn Bowden was close to leaving the program.

Bowden, one of the most hyped recruits to sign with Kentucky in years, caught just 17 passes for 210 yards as a freshman. He did not score a touchdown.

Kentucky's run-heavy offense factored in his lack of production as a freshman, as did his adjustment to college football while playing receiver for the first time after starring at quarterback in high school.
