Former UK tennis player to play in U.S. Open qualifier

Former University of Kentucky men’s tennis player Jesse Witten has earned a place in the U.S. Open Singles Qualifying Tournament. The 32-year-old won the U.S. Open National Playoffs, securing his spot in the qualifier.

Witten defeated top seed Matija Pecotic in the U.S Open national playoffs to earn a wild card spot in the U.S. Open qualifier. He will face No. 18 seed, Australian John-Patrick Smith in the first round.

The U.S. Open Singles Qualifying Tournament will be held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.
