Former Kentucky punter Landon Foster is in the headlines today after coming out in a powerful essay for OutSports.com. Foster writes that he was afraid to reveal his sexuality at Kentucky because he didn’t know how he would be accepted and didn’t want to be a distraction to his team. Now, he’s coming out publicly in hopes it helps others facing a similar struggle.
I am sure I will receive some backlash for writing this, but if there is one person it helps, then it will be worth it. I have been through hell, especially during my college years, trying to come to grips with who I am while also representing my university and football team.
