Former Frederick Douglass star named Kentucky Gatorade Football Player of the Year

The awards keep coming for former Frederick Douglass star offensive lineman and University of Kentucky player Jager Burton as he was named Kentucky Gatorade Football Player of the Year Thursday.

He becomes the first player to win the award from his alma mater in Lexington.

The 6-foot-4, 265-pound tackle totaled 78 knockdown blocks and anchored an offensive line that averaged 323 yards and 38.7 points per game. The Broncos finished with a 7-2 record and advanced to the Class 5A state semifinals. He also maintained a 3.34 GPA.

Burton also won the Paul Hornung Award as the state's top player, Co-Mr.
