2016 Production and Accolades
The Kentucky secondary allowed six more passing yards per game in 2016 than in 2015, but they were still the fifth-best unit in the SEC, allowing just 206.8 yards a game. After a shaky start to the season, the unit averaged one interception per game, often coming in critical moments, behind three seniors and three exceptional sophomores.
The leader of the secondary was the centerfielder, Mike Edwards. The sophomore accounted for 100 tackles, 8 pass break ups, 11 deflections and three interceptions. Edwards was one of only six players in the SEC with over 100 tackles and his three picks were tied for fifth in the league.
