A federal grand jury in California has indicted Michael Avenatti on 36 counts of fraud:

He is alleged to have embezzled settlements and defrauding clients including a client who is a paraplegic who lost their benefits because of Avenatti's alleged fraud.
Avenatti has since posted this on his Twitter account:
Any claim that any monies due clients were mishandled is bogus nonsense.
