Eastern Kentucky football reschedules home opener to avoid Derby conflict

Another Kentucky football team is readjusting its own schedule for the rescheduled Kentucky Derby. The Eastern Kentucky football team has announced the Colonels will now play their first game of the season against Western Carolina at home on Thursday, Sept. 3 at 7 p.m. The game was originally slated for the following Saturday (Sept. 5), also known as the same day as the also-rescheduled Derby.

EKU joins UK football and UofL football in its decision to avoid a conflict with the running of the roses. Kentucky will play Eastern Michigan on Thursday, Sept. 3, while Louisville will play NC State one day earlier to avoid a conflict with Derby and “Thurby.
