A native of Punta Gorda, Florida, located just outside of Ft. Myers, Hinshaw grew up cheering for the Gators.
“You either root for Florida State, Miami or Florida, and I was a Florida fan,” Hinshaw said.
As a high school quarterback, Hinshaw was recruited by Florida for quite some time, until Steve Spurrier was named head coach.
“I was recruited by Florida. At the time, Galen Hall was the coach. Then Spurrier came in and actually signed Terry Dean, who was my rival quarterback in high school, so I was a little miffed when Spurrier took terry Dean and not me.
