Covington Catholic used a second-half rally to knock off Ashland in a battle of top 10 teams in the UK Healthcare KHSAA Boys’ Sweet 16. Ashland came out blazing hot from deep, but the Colonels seemed content to trade 2s for 3s, figuring the Tomcats would cool off eventually. They eventually did.
Covington Catholic trailed 40-33 at the half, despite shooting 16-of-23 from the field. In the second half, the Colonels exploited their size advantage by going inside — over, and over, and over again. Big man Chandler Starks muscled his way to 21 points and 12 boards for Covington Catholic.
