Coronavirus cancellations are not the first time a pandemic has affected UK sports

The KHSAA, NCAA and many others had to make the tough decision to suspend and/or cancel tournaments due to the coronavirus. It was the right decision. Louisville Courier Journal

LEXINGTON – The good news was Thanksgiving dinner could not be canceled as well.

But students at the University of Kentucky in the fall of 1918 had to celebrate the holiday without football.

“For the first time in years the Wildcats can eat their turkey in peace, with no (thoughts) of a coming gridiron struggle, and townspeople with the lure of the pigskin removed, can observe the day with true Puritan tranquility,” UK’s student newspaper, The Kentucky Kernel, reported in its Nov.
