Ashton Hagans became UK basketball's turning point: 'He's made us different'

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Most attention was focused elsewhere when Kentucky guard Ashton Hagans quietly grabbed a basketball, stood near the top of the key at the Sprint Center on Thursday afternoon and started draining jump shots.

Swish, swish, swish. After about seven of them, one finally clanged off the rim.

“I’m telling you, he can shoot,” said UK coach John Calipari, predicting that Houston’s team, like others, won’t realize that.

“Tomorrow, they’re not playing him. They are going to trap the post and leave Ashton.”

In other words, Hagans contrasts the opposing point guard Friday night, a light-up-the-scoreboard type of veteran player who gets 17.
