The Kentucky football program received a commitment on Wednesday from a JUCO prospect who was off everyone’s radar. Braxton Urquhart, a 6-foot-3 defensive back, pledged his allegiance to Kentucky, the former Hoover High product’s only Power Conference offer.
Recruiting from the junior college ranks was a common tactic for decades, particularly by the SEC’s Mississippi schools. Mark Stoops had a nice run of successful JUCO products, beginning with Za’Darius Smith. The Cats also had a couple of defensive backs selected in the NFL Draft, Lonnie Johnson and Brandin Echols, who started their careers playing JUCO football.
