CYNTHIANA, Ky. — Babysitting duties couldn’t keep Joe B. Hall from the fish waiting to be caught in Indian Creek in the summer of 1939.

The 11-year-old boy loaded his 2-year-old sister Laura Jane in the basket of his bicycle and pedaled about a mile out Highway 27.

Hall hooked and reeled in about 20 “of the prettiest bluegills you ever saw,” and pushed each down a fishing line with a nail tied to the end.

When it came time to get back to the Cape Cod-style house the Halls lived in on Church Street, Hall had too much for the basket to hold and never considered leaving anything behind.
