Abby Steiner wins SEC Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year

Kentucky track star Abby Steiner has more hardware to add to her trophy case. Steiner was named SEC Women’s Outdoor Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year this afternoon. She won the same award for the indoor track & field season. The honor is given to the league’s most successful student-athlete both in the classroom and on the track.

Steiner is in the final stretch of an impressive senior campaign. So far, she ran the fifth-fastest 100m in collegiate history (10.92 seconds), the third-fastest 200m in collegiate history (22.05 seconds), and set five new school records. For her efforts, she won SEC Indoor Track & Field Athlete of the Year, USTFCCCA National Women’s Athlete of the Year, SEC Women’s Runner of the Week (four times), USTFCCCA Women’s Athlete of the Week (five times), and made six Bowerman Watchlist appearances.
