Thomas Secures Regional Athlete of the Year Honors

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Kent State track and field's Danniel Thomas secured another accolade Monday, as she was named Great Lakes Region Women's Field Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Thomas currently ranks second in the nation and ninth in the world with her record-breaking shot put mark of 18.32m (60 1.25"). Along with breaking the Jamaican national record and the Kent State record, Thomas is just the ninth collegiate woman to ever throw over 60 feet in the shot put.

At the Mid-American Conference Championships, Thomas captured her third-career indoor shot put title and was named MAC Women's Field Athlete of the Year after unleashing a meet-record mark of 18.
