Kent State lost to Northwestern University 3-0 in the first round of the Division 1 Women's College Soccer Tournament Saturday in Evanston, IL.
This was Kent State's first appearance in the tournament in program history.
The Flashes went down 2-0 in the first half. Northwestern sophomore defender Kayla Sharples got her head on the end of a corner kick in the 17th minute.
Northwestern was able to find the back of the net once again after being awarded a penalty kick in the 19th minute following a foul on the Flashes' sophomore goalkeeper Ashleah McDonald.
Northwestern scored again in the 82nd minute to ultimately win the game and advance in the tournament.
