Kent State's Tim Rooney (Columbus, Ohio/St. Charles) was named Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week Wednesday after going 5-1 in a third place finish at the Navy Classic on Saturday, Nov. 17.
A fourth-year junior, Rooney carries a 3.84 grade point average in exercise physiology. This season, he dropped down to the 133-pound weight class.
At Navy's Wesley Brown Field House, Rooney never allowed an opponent to score more than four points in any of his six matches. Rooney defeated opponents from Old Dominion and Cleveland State along with three victories over two opponents from Indiana.
