The Youngstown State women’s basketball team used an 18-point run, part of a 25-2 stretch in the first half, to build a big lead over visiting Kent State en route to a 91-61 victory Saturday.

The explosion put the Penguins (7-1) ahead 34-9 just over 13 minutes into the game, and YSU led by at least 13 points the rest of the way.

Freshman Alison Smolinski (North Royalton) scored a game-high 22 points in the Penguins’ largest margin of victory over the Golden Flashes (3-6) in the 41-game series history.
