Sophomore Luisa Echeverry and freshman Rita Pedroso each won her singles match and also won in doubles to lead the University of Akron tennis team on Friday on the first day of the 2016 Viking Invitational at Cleveland State.
Echeverry defeated West Virginia’s Lyn Yuen Choo at No. 4 singles, and teamed with Pedroso for a doubles wins over Duquesne (7-5) and Cleveland State (6-4). Pedoroso defeated West Virginia’s Carolina Lewis in the No. 5 singles match.
Sophia Geier won 7-6 (3), 6-3 at second singles and Karalina Maksimava won 6-4, 7-5 at third singles for the Zips.
