The University of Akron was awarded the Reese Trophy as the Mid-American Conference’s top men’s athletic program for the 2015-16 season on Wednesday.
The Zips won the Reese Trophy for the second time in program history after winning conference titles in men’s basketball, soccer and both indoor and outdoor track and field. The Zips football team brought home the first-ever bowl game victory with a win over Utah State in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl to complete an 8-5 season.
The men’s basketball team won the MAC and advanced to the NIT, the men’s soccer team reached the Final Four for the fourth time in program history before losing in a semifinal match to Stanford, and the men’s track and field team won its fifth MAC indoor title and sixth outdoor title to cap off an amazing 2015-16 athletic season.
