On the record: University of Akron sweeps Niagara in softball doubleheader

The University of Akron softball team improved to 23-25 with a doubleheader sweep of host Niagara University on Wednesday.

The Zips rallied to win the first game 3-1 and prevailed 4-2 in the second game.

The Purple Eagles scored a run in the first inning and maintained a 1-0 lead through five innings, but senior Savannah Fruin hit a two-run double in the sixth inning to put UA in front.

Freshman Lexie Handley (St. Vincent-St. Mary) pitched three innings and struck out three batters before being relieved by junior Kooper Vertz, who picked up her fourth win of the season for the Zips.
