On the record: UA’s Clayton Murphy wins NCAA title in 800 meters

University of Akron junior Clayton Murphy captured the 800 meters title with a time of 1:46.68 on the final day of the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships Saturday in Birmingham, Ala.

“I was able to stay in position the entire race,” Murphy said. “I felt comfortable upfront following and with 200 to go I had confidence. The last 100 was very tough. It is a great honor to be able to represent Akron and this race will be one I never will forget.”

“What a great accomplishment for Clayton and Akron,” UA coach Dennis Mitchell said.
